PREMIERE: Charlie Threads – Chin Chin

Sharing a string of budding releases and signing a deal with Be Rich Records, 2020 is quickly proving to be yet another dignifying year in the musical career of Melbourne’s Charlie Threads.

Moving with steady momentum, the young wordsmith is showing no signs of slowing down as he brings us his latest offering and celebratory new single ‘Chin Chin‘.

Staying true to the honest and evocative style that has been the cornerstone of Threads‘ forthcoming EP ‘Say Less‘ (expected in November 2020), the record offers a tale of introspection (without being self-absorbed), providing raw looks into his personal relationships and a deeper understanding of the man behind the artist.

Chin Chin‘ channels the feeling of moving past people’s inessential expectations and opinions in order to move through life on your own terms.

Sonically, the single presents playful production with reverberating 808’s, rapid percussion and grimy Trap-esque rhythmics, as Charlie lays smashing wordplay and wild tongue-in-cheek flows on top.

LISTEN TO ‘CHIN CHIN‘ BELOW!

Prior to the release, TLF managed to chat with Charlie about the new single, keeping motivated in lockdown, his forthcoming EP, and much more!

Check out the full interview below:

For those who still aren’t familiar, who is Charlie Threads?
I’m an artist from Melbourne, I been grinding since before you knew how to spell it and I promise I will be here to stay.

Where does you passion come from? Favourite artists/influences?
My passion comes from the never ending journey of just getting better at something I love. I have moments when I reflect on this more but in general it’s a hunger man, something you can never fill.

I adopted this mentality from artists like Mac Miller & Young Thug, these folks are pioneers and overall they out work whatever ‘talent’ is out there. I aspire to be that.

What does ‘Chin Chin‘ mean to you?
This was just an overall smash man, this is me truly having fun and believing in myself. It represents this less is more concept I’ve been playing with, focusing on the right elements and mastering them.

What can you tell us about the direction of your forthcoming EP ‘Say Less‘?
Pushing boundaries for sure, I kind of describe it as a good pizza haha, quality ingredients but less of them. That was the approach to the production as well as free styling everything on the EP. I’m super excited about this one, with Be Rich and my amazing team behind me I know this one is going to be special!

How have these lockdowns affected your creative process/ability to make music?
I have to be honest, it’s been hard for sure, I don’t really think anybody has been performing at their peak 100% of the time through out this weird period, but this EP is proof of perseverance and using is as fuel to the fire. I’ve tried not to be so hard on myself, and that inspires you more to just be free and work comes naturally. A virus can’t beat me.

What are you most excited about when the restrictions lift?
I’m gonna go wild at the casino with the bro’s and enjoy this success.

What have you been listening to throughout quarantine? Any personal recommendations?
JT Flowers “Track 4” is literally one of the dopest things I’ve heard, followed by Jack Harlow for sure, I’ve had ‘Confetti’ on repeat for sure. And oh for real Corbins album “Mourn” has been getting me lately, his voice is so insane. That’s all from me x
