Old Mate Jackuar earns his stripes on the highly anticipated debut album ‘HIGHJACKED’

After bursting on the scene in 2019 with his self-reflective anthem ‘Run Away‘, Cairns-born, Bali-raised and Melbourne-based rapper Old Mate Jackuar has steadily carved a lane for himself by offering an alternative concoction of Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop sonics.

Nearing the end of 2021, OMJ has now blessed fans with the release of his highly anticipated debut album ‘HIGHJACKED‘ which has been heavily teased through a string of singles and a fiery merch drop. At twelve tracks deep the project offers a cohesive blend of melodic Pop-Rap vocals alongside slamming Trap-style drums and spacey production. Old Mate Jackuar wears his pride on his sleeve and pens honest lyricism into heavy-hitting bars. ‘HIGHJACKED‘ is the perfect debut project as it comes packed with both powerful, introspective ballads (‘Intro‘, ‘Price of Fame‘, ‘Love Like This‘, and ‘Miss You‘) as well as uplifting anthems (‘Moving On‘ ‘HIGHJACKED‘ and ‘Fawkner Park Freestyle‘).

Speaking on the release, OMJ says;

“HIGHJACKED was originally going to be a small EP I put together during the first lockdown here in Melbourne. Once it became clear that we weren’t coming out of lockdown anytime soon it gave me the perfect opportunity to really lock in and put together a cohesive project.

All this time at home gave me the chance to truly develop my own sound and understand who I want to be as an artist. I was able to look back on my life so far and draw inspiration from everything I’ve been through as well as all the craziness going on around us right now. I want to show listeners all the different sides of me – HIGHJACKED is the result of that!”
