After expanding his horizons throughout 2021 by releasing his widely praised EP ‘Trinity‘, as well as selling out his first headline show at The Workers Club, South-East Melbourne artist Jaal is back with his first offering for 2022 ‘SHININ‘‘.
Sonically, it projects a raw and jazzy soundscape comprised of hefty drums, bright keys, pulsating synths, and a mesmerising sample that lingers in the background. All the while Jaal floats atop executing polished wordplay and introspective lyricism about knowing he’s making the right moves for his career. Switching up the tempo and bouncing between various rhyme schemes, Jaal continues to prove he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Accompanying the release are some flashy visuals courtesy of frequent collaborators 76M Films (directed by Frankie Fresco & Johnny Yayo).
Speaking to Acclaim Magazine about the video, Jaal says;
“Shooting this video was definitely among my favourite of all time for many reasons. I had a hand in directing and it was really focused so it felt real good to be able to curate the visuals like that. The main location of the shoot was at Chadstone too, which is where I work so it’s kinda ironic and funny to me in a way. A lot of thought went into this one from the outfits that were chosen (wearing all white to reflect the song title and meaning), to the cars and so on. I’m hella stoked and happy with how it all turned out, especially because everything aligns perfectly with the vision I had in mind.”
With Jaal retreating into project mode and pushing musical boundaries along the way, TLF is eager to see what he has in store for the remainder of the year. Don’t sleep!
