According to Luke, the record explores a fictional perception of mental health which illustrates a vivid image of how dark the mind can get.
“It’s an expression of how they feel like we can’t escape the reality of mental health sometimes and think that substance is the key to getting inside the mind to fix the problem, while only making it worse.”
“It’s a light to shine on the darkness and a way to try and educate those who are stuck in the loop. Everyone has their own perception of “Angels” and “Demons” – ‘Neverland’ is theirs.”
Sonically, ‘Neverland‘ makes for a captivating listen that’s filled with grungy flows and reverberating wordplay. Further, the track offers brisk production consisting of dark chords and heavy 808’s, reminiscent to the likes of US acts Tyla Yahweh, Lil Peep and Lil Tracy.
LISTEN TO ‘NEVERLAND‘ BELOW AND TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!
TLF managed to chat with Kieren Luke to learn more about him, his inspiration, how COVID-19 has affected his music, plans for future releases and more!
Check out the full interview below:
First off, congrats on the release of ‘Neverland‘! How did it come together?
Thank you legend! We’re excited to finally get it out. ‘Neverland‘ was a session planned with Kid Yurn just to have a bit of fun and see how well we work together. But within the first three hours we basically had a complete project and couldn’t say no to refining and releasing! When the vibes right, emotion and creativity become second nature.
There’s always a tonne of energy in your music, where do you draw inspiration?
Honestly, the energy is hatched from the passion and drive I have to achieve this dream and when the dream starts to turn into reality, the energy inflates itself. That’s the pure magic of passion! If controlled, it’s makes you feel unstoppable.
Has COVID-19 affected your creative process and the ability to make music?
At first I lost all sight of future potential and it got pretty dark, but once I was able to see the positives behind the time off, I wrote 36 new tracks in less than 2 weeks! I’d say it’s been a blessing and a curse, like when you’ve got time and no money or money without time!
Once these lockdowns brush over, what are you most excited about doing again?
So many things Tim! I feel like a kid locked out of a candy store at the moment. Like obviously being able to set up shows and get this movement rolling, but I’m excited to be able to go to the pub with the bro’s and run wild! Haha
Looking forward, is there anything else we can expect to keep and eye out for?
Without a doubt man! ‘Neverland‘ is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve got another collaboration to follow with some big support behind it. Followed by my debut EP, consisting of a cross-genre playground that’s been delicately laced together to hit all demographics. The teams ready to take over and make a wave!
