After leaping onto the scene roughly four years ago, Melbourne-based Rapper Kyso has since garnered the attention of various industry tastemakers (including NME and Cool Accidents) with his captivating charisma and heavy-hitting flows. Now, the time has come for the budding artist to unveil his long-awaited debut EP ‘BEFORE I RUN‘.

Considered a ‘light jog’ before achieving full speed in 2023, this four-track body of work (mixed and mastered by Ionei Heckenberg) showcases Kyso’s true vulnerability as an artist and the dedication for his craft. The opening cut ‘GET UP kicks things off with mighty Boom-Bap production which has a classic Kanye-esque vibe to it. Before Kyso enters with his signature flair of smooth and melodic vocals, with one of Melbourne’s best lyricists Nomad also contributing a phenomenal verse serving as a ‘tip of the hat’ to anyone chasing their dreams.

Following the intro and switching lanes into a more braggadocious mood is ‘MOVE’, which features Melbournes Dos Boy alongside production by local producer Kwasi. ‘BET IT’, the focus single of the EP, showcases Kyso’s transparency and vulnerability with lines dedicated to his late grandmother, Iris. The track also features a hook from Boy Graduate, who compliments Kyso’s introspective verses of loss and triumph. All the while the production offers a bed of chords meshed with atmospheric sounds and thumping Trap drums, a notable style from Melbourne powerhouse producer HAMLEY.

Closing out the EP, Kyso is joined by Melbourne artist Thirty30, for a remix of his previously released ‘SOLO’ which released earlier this year to much acclaim. Looking forward, TLF is eager to see what Kyso has planned for the new year as there’s no doubt this appetiser with leave listeners hungry for more!
